It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s meet-cute! With only a day left until the Superman & Lois premiere, The CW has released an exclusive clip from the pilot episode. To the excitement of many fans, the clip features the very first meeting of the titular couple, Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch).
The new clip highlights Clark Kent’s first day working at the Daily Planet. When he sees Lois for the first time, he pauses nervously for a moment before she takes him on a tour of the newsroom.
Superman & Lois will focus on the relationship between the couple as they raise their two teenage sons. It seeks to be a deviation from many other Superman films and shows, and focus on the elements of Superman and Lois Lane’s relationship as a married couple in a family drama setting. While it isn’t meant to be an origin story for the character, Superman & Lois will feature many important events from the superhero’s past in a montage during the pilot episode, according to Entertainment Weekly.

According to Entertainment Weekly, pilot director Lee Toland Krieger’s (director, Celeste and Jesse Forever) main goal in featuring a montage sequence of the superhero’s past in the pilot episode was to “have our fun with that mythology and then get into the show.” Kreiger mentioned in his interview that although he hopes Superman & Lois will bring something new to the characters and explore new storylines for the iconic superhero, he has taken inspiration from the characters past on-screen appearances.
When speaking about revisiting the Zack Snyder directed Man Of Steel, Kreiger stated “We certainly looked at, in particular, the [movie’s] suit. The suit, obviously, is a great looking suit, despite people thinking it was somewhat heretical to lose the underpants. I think now it sort of seems like the gold standard.” (Entertainment Weekly)
Both Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Tulloch (Grimm) are reprising their roles from when they previously guest starred or appeared as recurring characters on fellow Arrowverse shows, including Supergirl.
The two-hour premiere of Superman & Lois airs February 23 at 8/7c on The CW. Watch the clip before the premiere exclusively on Entertainment Weekly.
