‘Supergirl’ Actress Brit Morgan Cast in Season 2 of ‘Riverdale’

There’s about to be a new face in Riverdale. Deadline reported on Friday that The CW series based on the Archie Comics will welcome Brit Morgan in a recurring role on the upcoming sophomore season.

The actress is set to play Penny Peabody, who is known to some residents of Riverdale as the “Snake Charmer.” Deadline described the new character as a “wily backroom attorney that the Southside Serpents keep on retainer in case of run-ins with the law.” What makes her different from the average lawyer is that she prefers favors instead of cash when it comes to compensation for her services, which could be anything when it comes to the Serpents. Penny will work with Jughead, played by The Suite Life of Zack and Cody‘s Cole Sprouse, to help his father after being sent to jail. While FP Jones, played by Law & Order: LA‘s Skeet Ulrich, may have been found innocent of the murder of Jason Blossom by the end of Season 1, Jughead’s father is still facing up to 20 years in jail for falsely confessing to a crime he did not commit.

Morgan will be joining returning series regulars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Mädchen E. Amick as Alice Cooper, and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews in the upcoming season. Ulrich and Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, have both been promoted to series regulars for Season 2. New additions to the cast include Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, while Charles Melton will take over the role of Reggie following Ross Butler’s departure from the show.

Fans will know Morgan from her previous roles as Leslie Willis/Livewire on The CW’s Supergirl, as Debbie Pelt on HBO’s True Blood, and as Lacey Thornfield on ABC Family’s short-lived The Middleman. The actress has also made guest appearances on Greek, Shameless, Southland, Desperate Housewives, Two and a Half Men, Ironside, Graceland, Criminal Minds, and The Night Shift. Her film credits include She Wants Me, The Frozen, Free Ride, and Friend Request.

The series is currently in production for Season 2 in Vancouver. Teen Vogue reported that behind-the-scenes drama caused a delay in filming on Thursday when Cole Sprouse argued with a street performer who was playing outside of the venue they were filming in.

Riverdale is set to return for its second season on October 11 at 8/7c on The CW. Season 1 is currently available to stream on Netflix.
