According to Deadline, rising actress Summer H. Howell (Curse Of ChuckyHunter Hunter) is currently in talks to take on the iconic role of Carrie White in Mike Flanagan’s (The Fall Of The House Of UsherThe Haunting Of Hill House) upcoming Carrie television series for Prime Video. If finalized, this would mark Howell’s first time leading a television production.

Mike Flanagan, best known for helming several horror projects over the past decade, is set to write and direct the series, which will reimagine Stephen King’s (ItThe Shining) classic novel. The story centers on Carrie, a socially isolated teenage girl who, after the sudden death of her father, finds herself navigating high school, bullies, and the discovery of telekinetic abilities—all while living under the strict control of her domineering mother.

Deadline reports that production is expected to begin in Vancouver as soon as May. Flanagan will also executive produce the project alongside longtime collaborator Trevor Macy (The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass).

Notably, the role of Carrie has a history on the big screen. Sissy Spacek (Night SkyIn The Bedroom) earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance in Brian De Palma’s (ScarfaceMission: Impossible) 1976 film, and Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-AssThe Peripheral) later portrayed the character in the 2013 remake.

Howell, who began acting at the age of 8, has previously appeared in several horror titles as well as the Disney+ original drama Clouds. Her potential casting adds to a growing slate of female-led reboots and adaptations at Prime Video. The service recently secured newcomer Lexi Minetree (My Amish Double LifeLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit) for prequel to Legally Blonde and is also in talks with Sophie Turner (Game Of ThronesJoan) to lead a new Tomb Raider series.

Summer H. Howell’s involvement in Carrie was first reported by Variety.
