The release of Suits LA was a major win for fans of the original Suits series, which wrapped back in 2019. The spinoff features some returning characters, including Gabriel Macht (Because I Said So, Pearson) as Harvey Specter, and quite a few new faces.While the original series was set in New York City, this version take place in Los Angeles.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, initial ratings for the new drama were not as positive as anticipated, but NBC’s streaming service Peacock has altered the projection.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed some of the initial viewer statistics. Suits LA premiered Feb. 23 on-air, and had 2.61 million viewers. After three days on Peacock and additional delayed viewing, Suits LA has climbed to 4.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen and NBC’s internal data. Other new NBC dramas are also gaining more traction through streaming than on network. The series Grosse Pointe Garden Society had 1.79 million viewers on the day of network release, but now reports 3.3 million after three days of streaming.
Streaming did not just affect viewership, but also improved ratings. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ratings amongst adults 18- 49 sat at .25 after network release, but rose to .75 after a few days on Peacock.
According to Screen Rant, Suits LA has not received positive reviews from major review aggregators. On Rotten Tomatoes it received a 34% on the Tomatometer and a 37% on the Popcornmeter.
The new spinoff stars Macht as Harvey Specter, reprising the same role from the original show. While it does have a new cast of characters, reporting by Screen Rant verified that more original characters will be making appearances. The cast includes Stephen Amell (Arrow, Code 8), Lex Scott Davis (The First Purge, Superfly), Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead, Sharkdog), Bryan Greenberg (Prime, How to Make it In America), and Troy Winbush (The Principal, Chat Room).
The show releases an episode each Sunday on Peacock and 9pm EST on NBC network.
