Studio MAPPA Has Revealed New Trailer For ‘The Rose Of Versailles’ Revival

A new trailer has been released from Studio MAPPA of their newest project, a revival of the shojo classic The Rose of Versailles according to ComicBook. The series will be adapted into an anime movie premiering in 2025.

In recent years, Studio MAPPA has taken over the world of anime. With fan-favorite projects, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, Yuri on Ice, Vinland Saga season two, and Chainsaw Man the production studio has more than made a name for themselves within the industry. Now they’re going to be taking a change from their recent shonen successes and step into the world of romance anime through this newest adaptation.

The Rose of Versailles was first published as a manga in 1972 and instantly became a classic in the romance anime genre. The new anime movie will take place during the French Revolution, but historical adaptation is nothing new for Studio MAPPA who released the hit Netflix historical anime series Vinland Saga in 2019. The story follows the lives of two very different women, the famed Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, and a commander of her royal guard Oscar, who is cross-dressing in the position.

The trailer released not only shares how this new adaptation is going to look with the Studio MAPPA style but also flashes back to the original franchise. The film is expected to be one of the biggest hits in Japan for next year with a release date of January 31, 2025. Excitement for this film has been growing since its initial announcement not only because this is the only adaptation that the franchise has gotten in decades, but due to the overwhelming popularity that comes with a Studio MAPPA association.

For those wanting to catch up with the original series before the revival film premieres, it is available on both Pluto TV and Freevee.
