‘Stewie’ Scores Two‑Season Order at Fox as Seth MacFarlane Expands Animated Universe

Fox has officially ordered two seasons of Stewie, a new animated comedy that expands the long‑running Family Guy franchise. The series centers on the Griffin family’s youngest member and marks the second spinoff from the flagship show. According to Deadline, the project comes from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (Ted, The Orville) and longtime collaborator Kirker Butler (The Cleveland Show, Family Guy), with Butler serving as showrunner. The series is scheduled to premiere during the 2027–28 season on Fox, with next‑day streaming on Hulu and international availability on Disney+.

The network describes the new series as following Stewie after he is expelled from his original preschool and forced to attend a far less impressive one. Surrounded by unfamiliar classmates and even a 75‑year‑old class turtle, Stewie quickly turns the bleak environment into a launchpad for surreal adventures. As Deadline reports, the official logline states that Stewie “begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.” MacFarlane will reprise his role as the voice of Stewie, continuing a performance that has earned him multiple Emmy Awards.

The series will exist in its own continuity and will not affect Stewie’s storyline on Family Guy, where the character currently attends Quahog Preschool. However, the new show will include references to the original series, including Stewie’s time machine and his teddy bear Rupert. Brian, another central character from Family Guy, is expected to make appearances. According to Deadline, the series is being co‑financed by Fox and Hulu, making it a joint commission rather than a traditional network‑only pickup.

Stewie joins Fox’s lineup of long‑running animated titles from 20th Television Animation, including The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, American Dad! and Family Guy, all of which were renewed through 2029 under multi‑series agreement. The new spinoff arrives as MacFarlane continues expanding his television footprint across multiple platforms. Under his Fuzzy Door banner, he also executive produces the Ted prequel series for Peacock and the upcoming Ted animated series, alongside additional projects in development. As Deadline notes, the deal for Stewie is structured differently from Fox’s other animated renewals, with the network and Hulu sharing production costs.

MacFarlane executive produces Stewie for Fuzzy Door alongside Butler and Kara Vallow. 20th Television Animation serves as the studio.
