Sterlin Harjo’s Pilot For FX Drama ‘The Sensitive Kind’ Recruits A Big Cast Of Eight, Featuring Talents Such As Keith David, Jeanne Tripplehorn, And Kyle MacLachlan

Sterlin Harjo’s (Reservation Dogs, Barking Water) FX pilot, The Sensitive Kind, has enlisted the talents of eight actors to join executive producer and lead Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before Sunrise), according to DeadlineThe Sensitive Kind unfolds as a Tulsa noir narrative revolving around a character portrayed by Hawke, who finds himself entangled in a web of secrets. Details regarding the roles of the newly introduced cast remain undisclosed.

Deadline reports the notable additions include Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Scott Shepherd (Killers of the Flower Moon, Bridge of Spies), Tracy Letts (August: Osage County, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet), Keith David (American Fiction, The Princess and the Frog), Siena East (Sex Lives of College Girls, Clone High), Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love, The Firm), and Macon Blair (Oppenheimer, Green Room).

According to Deadline, Harjo also assumes the roles of writer and director for the pilot, which he and Hawke oversee as executive producers alongside Garrett Basch (The Night Of, What We Do in the Shadows). This endeavor falls under Harjo’s comprehensive agreement with the studio responsible for the pilot, FX Productions. The greenlight for The Sensitive Kind follows closely after the conclusion of the acclaimed three-season run of Reservation Dogs on FX. Hawke cameoed in the final season as the father to Devery Jacobs’s (Echo, The Order) Elora Danan. 

Recently, David captivated audiences as Willy the Wonker in Cord Jefferson’s Academy Award-winning dramedy, American Fiction. His upcoming endeavors include a leading role in the Max crime thriller series, Duster, created by JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lost) and LaToya Morgan (Parenthood, Shameless). However, production was halted due to the WGA strike last year, and there have been no recent updates regarding its release.

East, known for her prowess as both a writer and actress, has contributed to several episodes of the Fox animated comedy Grimsburg and Max’s Clone High. Additionally, she made an appearance in an episode of Max’s The Sex Life of College Girls.

Tripplehorn’s recent endeavors include prominent roles in Max’s The Gilded Age and Prime Video’s The Terminal List. With an extensive array of television and film credits, she notably portrayed one of the sister wives in the acclaimed HBO drama Big Love. Additionally, her notable appearances span across projects such as Mrs. America, Grey Gardens, and the film Gloria Bell.

Nelson, recognized for his versatile character portrayals, has graced numerous films including O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Minority Report, Syriana, and entries within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His upcoming venture includes a role in Captain America: Brave New World, slated for early 2025 release. On the small screen, he starred in an episode of Peacock’s popular series, Poker Face.

Shepherd has left a mark in cinema with notable roles in films like Bridge of Spies, Jason Bourne, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, and his recent appearance in Killers of the Flower Moon. His television credits feature memorable roles in The Young Pope, The Good Fight, and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us.

On the television front, Letts has left an indelible mark with his roles, notably portraying Andrew Lockhart in two seasons of Showtime’s Homeland, and taking on the character of con artist Nick in HBO’s Divorce. Most recently, he graced the screen as basketball coach Jack McKinney in HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Maclachlan’s illustrious career is punctuated by memorable characters, including the iconic Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, Trey MacDougal in HBO’s Sex and the City, and Paul Atreides in the 1984 film adaptation of Dune, among others. His upcoming role is the character Hank in Prime Video’s Fallout, based on the acclaimed game franchise of the same name.

Blair’s latest roles include portraying Wade in the superhero comedy horror The Toxic Avenger and Lloyd K. Garrison in the Academy Award-winning film Oppenheimer. His upcoming project involves starring in the Tubi Western film The Thicket, where he reunites with Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, The Station Agent), his co-star from The Toxic Avenger.
