Stephen King’s Limited Series ‘Lisey’s Story’ Gets a June 4 Premiere Date at Apple TV+

The very high in demand Stephen King (The Stand) is back with a television adaptation of Lisey’s Story, which is based upon his 2006 novel under the same name. The series will premiere its first two episodes on Apple TV+ June 4 with a new episode then following each Friday for six weeks, as reported by TVline.

Lisey’s Story will star Julianne Moore (Still Alice) as Lisey, and Clive Owen (The Nick) as her dead husband Scott. The series is a mixture of drama, thriller, and the supernatural as Lisey must deal with the grief of her husband’s passing. As she unpacks the trauma and turmoil of Scott’s death, it proves to be a potentially dangerous affair as she begins to remember things she’d rather not.

Deemed the master of horror, King’s upcoming adaptation promises to be an exciting one. In a rare feat, King wrote the script for the entire series, something he doesn’t do often. The most recent adaptation of King’s works was the CBS All Access limited series The Stand, adapted from his 1978 novel under the same name. Premiering in December 2020, King served as an executive producer on the series and also wrote a new ending in the final episode. HBO also recently adapted his book The Outsider into the 2020 series under the same name.

With countless movies and television shows adapted from his various works, it’s unusual for King to pick up the pen and write the adaptation himself, but he’s making an exception for Lisey’s Story. Correlating with the show announcing its premiere date on Tuesday, King wrote on Twitter, “I’m excited about this. I’m very happy and proud with how it turned out.” See his full tweet below:

With a total of eight episodes, Lisey’s Story is directed in its entirety by Academy-Award nominee Pablo Larrain (A Fantastic Woman). In addition to Moore and Owen, the cast features Joan Allen (The Notebook), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Annihlation), Sung Kang (Power), Dane DeHaan (The Place Beyond the Pines), and Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us). It’s executive produced by J.J Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Larrain, King, and Moore.

In addition to the series premiere date, Apple TV+ released the first look at the series, including glimpses of stars Moore and Owen on set which was featured in a Vanity Fair piece. In the article, King also spoke in depth about the inspiration behind the story, and why he decided he had to be the one to write the entire limited series.

On twitter, King Retweeted Vanity Fair’s article with the full collection of pictures from the set of Lisey’s Story. Get access to the entire article via Twitter below:
