Quibi, has recently picked up the upcoming sci-fi thriller Code 8 which is set to star Arrow lead Stephen Amell opposite cousin Robbie Amell as his co-star— the new series is based on a short film they worked on together back in 2016 before staring a crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter. The series will be more of a spin off from the independent film rather than a direct remake.
Though The CW star is best known for showing off his athleticism in the famed DC adaptation, fans can expect to see him take a more dramatic role based on the series’ official trailer. Meanwhile Robbie Amell is set to star as the lead and will have the opportunity to show off more of his acting abilities.

Despite its humble beginnings, Code 8 has grown a large fan-base already and led to a successful campaign targeted at the feature-length version. After raising nearly $2.5 million from more than 27,000 investors, the film was subsequently released in a few select amount of theaters. The movie takes place in a world where about 4 percent of humans are born possessing supernatural powers and are discriminated against as a result.
Per the official description, Quibi’s new series follows Robbie’s character “years after the events of the movie, centering around an [his life on the run] and telekinetic drug dealer (Stephen Amell) who are forced to work together to bring down a dangerous trafficking ring run by corrupt cops and the city’s elite.” Jeff Chan, who was behind the short film version, will also direct the series and co-write in partnership with Chris Paré.
Meanwhile, Stephen Amell also recently signed on to star in Starz Heels— an 8-episode drama series set to follow “the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling.” A close-knit Georgia community will be at the series’ center and will ultimately follow “a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy.”
