Starz’s upcoming supernatural spy thriller series The Rook is set to premiere in June, ComingSoon reports. The series is based on Daniel O’Malley’s novel of the same name and follows Myfanwy Thomas (Emma Greenwell), a woman who is hunted by evil paranormal adversaries and learns about her own supernatural abilities. One day, she wakes up in the rain by London’s Millennium Bridge, near dead bodies, and wearing latex gloves. She does not remember who she is and has to fight in order to regain her position as a high-ranking official of Britain’s last secret paranormal service called the Checquy before those who betrayed her and stole her memory can complete their evil plan. Myfanwy “will have to navigate the dangerous and complex world of the agency to uncover who wiped her memory — and why she is target,” according to the logline.
The cast also includes Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), who will play the character Linda Farrier, the female leader of the Chequey, Olivia Munn (The Newsroom, X-Men: Apocalypse) who will play Monica Reed “a bold American intelligence officer with subtle paranormal abilities,” James D’Arcy who will play Agent Charter, Paula Patton (Somewhere Between) who will play the lead villain, and Adrian Lester (Hustle) who will play Conrad Grantchester, together with Ronan Raftery (The Terror) and Catherine Steadman (Downton Abbey) who will be the Gestalt siblings. Shelley Conn (Mistresses) and James D’Arcy (Agent Carter) have been cast for main recurring roles.
The show is adapted and co-produced by award-winning playwrights and screenwriters Al Muriel (Precious & Rich) and Sam Holcroft (Rules for Living). It is executive produced by Stephen Garrett (The Night Manager). Lisa Zwerling (ER) and Karyn Usher (Bones) will serve as co-showrunners replacing Stephenie Meyer, the author of The Twilight Saga, who has exited the show due to “creative differences,” ComingSoon has learned.
The series is scheduled to premiere on June 30, 2019, at 8/7c.
