Starz Sets September Premiere For ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Starring Shemar Moore

Starz has acquired the U.S. rights to S.W.A.T. Exiles and officially set a premiere date for the upcoming action drama. According to Deadline, the S.W.A.T. spinoff starring Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds, The Young and the Restless, The Brothers) will debut on September 25. Sony Pictures Television has also secured distribution deals for the series across every major international market.

The spinoff was first announced in May 2025 after CBS canceled S.W.A.T. for third and final time following its eight-season run. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television moved forward with the series independently before securing a U.S. distribution partner. After production wrapped earlier this year, the studio held screenings for potential buyers in Los Angeles, New York, and London before ultimately reaching an agreement with Starz.

Created as a continuation of the S.W.A.T. franchise, S.W.A.T. Exiles follows Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson after a high-profile mission goes sideways, forcing him out of retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested young recruits. As Hondo attempts to transform the group into an effective team, he must overcome generational differences, clashing personalities, and mounting pressure to save the program that made him who he is.

The series stars Moore alongside Lucy Barrett (Deep Water, Charmed, Skincare), Adain Bradley (All American, Industry, The Bold and the Beautiful), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea, Young Jedi Adventures, Chicago Fire), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us, Grey’s Anatomy, The L Word: Generation Q), and Ronen Rubinstein (Dead of Summer, 9-1-1: Lone Star, It Felt Like Love). Returning cast members include Jay Harrington (Better Off Ted, American Reunion, Summerland) as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay, Patrick St. Esprit (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Draft Day, We Were Soldiers) as Commander Robert Hicks, and David Lim (Hollywood Heights, Quantico, 5th Passenger) as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode.

Jason Ning (Perception, Lucifer, Burn Notice) serves as showrunner and executive producer of the series. Additional executive producers include Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious, Out of Time, Escape Room), Pavun Shetty (Goosebumps, The Boys, Gen V), Moore, James Scura (Angie Tribeca, Leverage, Legit), and Jon Cowan (Crossing Jordan, Bionic Woman, Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector).

S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres September 25 on Starz.
