Two months after releasing the trailer, Starz has finally announced that its upcoming crime drama Hightown will premiere May 17. The eight-episode series stars Monica Raymund (Chicago Fire), James Badge Dale (World War Z), Riley Voelkel (The Originals), Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Atkins Estimond (Dumb and Dumber) and Shane Harper (Good Luck Charlie).
Created by The Mentalist writer Rebecca Cutter, Hightown depicts an ominous Cape Cod as the opioid epidemic adds new victims. Hard-partying Jackie Quiñones (Raymond), an agent of National Marine Fisheries Service, sees her lifestyle shaken by the discovery of a corpse on a beach. Going back into sobriety to overcome her trauma, Jackie soon decides she needs to solve the murder. Her involvement highly displeases the stern Ray Abruzzo (Dale), a Cape Cod Interagency Narcotics Unit Sergeant. Although the plot mainly focuses on the murder mystery elements of the series, Hightown remains a psychological series digging deep into the characters’ minds and depicting their struggle to find peace.
When asked about her role at the Television Critics Association press tour in January, Raymond expressed that ‘This role is really about battling my inner demons, trying to find redemption, trying to fill something within me that I can’t fill. I don’t have a whole person yet. I’m exploring that as the character of Jackie.”
Hightown will debut on Sunday, May 17 on Starz.
