According to The Hollywood Reporter, Starz has recently canceled Shining Vale after two seasons of airing. The series is not only canceled as the network will be removing the series altogether from its streaming library by the end of the month.
Below is a social media post from creator Jeff Astrof (In-Laws) on the news of the cancellation. The post reads, “This show gave me unrelenting joy to work on. Not a single bad day. Please watch the Starz turns out, Limited series Shining Vale before 12/31”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series had positive reviews when the first season aired in March 2022 in which it also earned a renewal a few months later. Season two recently aired back in October and it wasn’t as successful when it came to bringing viewers back to the series. This led Starz to not only cancel the series but also take it off their streaming library.
Shining Vale follows a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town after Patricia Phelps, who became famous through writing a raunchy female empowerment novel, is caught cheating on her husband. To rebuild the now broken family they move into a house where many terrible atrocities have taken place.
The series cast includes Courteney Cox (Friends), Greg Kinnear (Sabrina), Gus Birney (Here and Now), Dylan Gage (PEN15), Mira Sorvino (American Crime Story), Merrin Dungey (Alias), James M. Connor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), and many others. The series was created by Astrof and Sharon Horgan (Pulling). Warner Bros. TV and Starz parent Lionsgate TV produced the series. Astrof also served as showrunner and executive producer for the series with Horgan and Clelia Mountford (Motherland) of Merman Productions and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.
Shining Vale will be available on Starz until December 31st.
