According to The Hollywood Reporter, Starz has announced that it has canceled 50 Cent-produced drama series BMF after four seasons. The news of the cancellation comes about 2 1/2 months after the fourth and now final season concluded in mid-August.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series comes from Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s (Get Rich or Die Trying, Den of Thieves) G-Unit Film and Television and Lionsgate TV. The series followed the chronicles of the rise of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry Flenory, brothers who became leaders of Detroit’s Black Mafia Family, also known as BMF, in the 1980s and ‘90s. Randy Huggins (Prime Suspect, The Unit) created the series and executive-produced with fourth season showrunner Heather Zuhlke (Tell Me a Story, A Home at the End of the World), Jackson, Anthony Wilson (Shawn Mendes: For Friends and Family Only, Shawn Mendes: Why Why Why) and Anne Clements (Chick Fight, The Kill Room).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Starz president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch noted season four’s “underperformance” in a quarterly earnings call a day before the finale Starz generally keeps its cross-platform viewing data private. Hirsch said the show fell short of expectations, which “resulted in modest sequential declines in OTT subscribers and revenue.”
BMF stars Demetrius Flenory Jr. (Euphoria, Good Times) and Da’Vinchi (The Way Back, The Boys) as the two brothers, with Flenory playing his father stated via The Hollywood Reporter. The cast of the series also included Russell Hornsby (The Hate U Give, Meet the Parents), Michole Briana White (Laying Out, She Hate Me), Eric Kofi-Abrefa (The Book of Clarence, Blue Story), Myles Truitt (The New Edition Story, Stranger Thing), Steve Harris (All American, Law & Order: Organized Crime) and La La Anthony (Think Like A Man, Trouble Man).
As per The Hollywood Reporter, BMF is available to stream on Hulu. Starz roster now includes Power spinoffs Raising Kanan and Force, Outlander Blood of My Blood; P-Valley; co-productions Sweetpea and The Couple Next Door; and the upcoming Spartacus: House of Ashur, Fightland and Power: Origins, a prequel series.
