Paramount+ gave fans of the Star Trek series a huge gift on Star Trek Day. The upcoming animated series, Prodigy, is set to premiere on Oct.28 with an one-hour episode, via Entertainment Tonight. In addition to the announcement, a two-minute trailer was shared during the Star Trek Day live stream. Prodigy is the first project of the series to aim at younger audiences. The show will focus on a group of young aliens, and how they manage to work together in search of a better future. Although not knowing how to operate the ship, the youngsters adventure through challenges and will eventually be introduced to Starfleet.
Kate Mulgrew will join the voice cast. Mulgrew is no stranger to the Star Trek fans. She is known for her famous role, Captain Kathryn Janeway, of Star Trek: Voyager. She also served as the voice actor for the role in several other Star Trek projects such as the video game, Star Trek: Legacy. In this upcoming series, she will maintain her role as Captain Janeway. Other cast members include Brett Gray and Dee Bradley Baker. Gray is known for his role as Jamal Turner on the Netflix series On My Block. Baker is a regular cast of animated series with his voice performances from Avatar: The Last Airbender, American Dad!, and many more.
The brother duo Kevin and Dan Hageman will serve as executive producers. They have formerly worked on projects such as Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. The Swiss co-producer, Ben Hibon, will direct the first episode. Hibon worked as the animation director of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
The first episode of the iconic series was premiered on September 8, 1966. Fifty five years later, Trekkies are still celebrating the legendary past of the series yet excited for more to come. Prodigy will be available exclusively on Paramount Plus.
