According to Comicbook, Rick and Morty star Spencer Grammer (Solar Opposites) reacts to the new family dynamic between Summer and Rick in season seven. The seventh season of the series has brought many changes, from different voice actors for the two main characters to the dynamic between family members changing. Grammer’s character of Summer Smith was barely seen in the new season, but when she did make an appearance, it was clear that her interactions with Rick were much different than Morty’s.
According to Comicbook, Grammar spoke with them about the changes in the character’s relationships. In the episode “Air Force Wong”, Rick finally admits to Summer that he treats her differently than Morty because he respects her more than him. In the episode, both characters are seen yelling at one another about their respective boundaries.
In the conversation with Comicbook Grammer said, “At some point you do have to kind of set a boundary with people and it’s pretty funny. I think there’s some really great psychological comedic moments and relationship moments. That is really truly what’s wonderful about this show is you have a lot of family dynamics…dysfunctional family dynamics that also are turned into comedy. So it makes it easy and relatable to laugh at because I think we’re all struggling to set boundaries with our family members at times.”
All episodes of Rick and Morty are available on Adult Swim and Max. Season seven of the series will be available to stream on Max January 22nd. With all the news on the series, many fans are already anticipating information on season eight. Although fans will have to wait for season eight, there is a Rick and Morty anime that is scheduled to premiere this year.
