The latest episode of House of the Dragon has many viewers celebrating the arrival of one of the show’s most shocking and satisfying deaths. According to Comicbook, the episode—titled “The Butcher’s Ball” features Ser Criston Cole, played by Fabien Frankel (The Serpent, Task), whose boastful claims of being the ultimate warrior paired with his self-righteous attitude made him a prime target. While Cole previously declared that any death of his would be a glorious one on the battlefield, he is proven right in the most unexpected way: surrounded by House Stark forces, he is fatally struck by three arrows shot by Alysanne Blackwood, played by Annie Shapero (Red Skies, Vought Rising) because he refused to yield.

Reported by Comicbook, one comment that fan had wrote on social media has stated,“CRISTON COLE DEAD AND I CANT STOP SMILING,THESE ARE THE MOMENTS THAT MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING.” With another adding,“Criston Cole thought he was gonna have a moment only to be cut off and killed with 3 arrows from a WOMAN after fighting a war to deny a WOMAN as the rightful Monarch.” The global reaction to Criston Cole says it all: fans everywhere were ecstatic. Seeing a character who carried himself with so much unearned swagger finally face the consequences of his actions was easily one of the most gratifying moments of the show.
As Comicbook points out, this serves as a stark reminder of Westeros’s central law: moral righteousness offers zero protection. Whether a character is a noble hero or a deceitful villain, in the brutal reality of Game of Thrones, death comes for everyone. All current episodes of the third season of House of the Dragon are available to stream on HBO Max, with the remaining two episodes releasing on every Sunday.
