While fans are still processing the high-stakes battles of X-Men ’97 season two, Marvel Animation decided not to wait for the dust to settle before looking ahead. According to Comicbook,, the entire season follows the theme of human vs. mutant.The latest episode is titled, “Strange Land, Savage Heart”, which finds the titular group traveling to Antarctica to rescue the anti-mutant fanatic Graydon Creed, voiced by Ben Pronsky (Record of Ragnarok, Super Crooke) from his trial/execution by the hands of the the Acolytes.
Later in the episode, viewers discover that Graydon is actually the half-brother of Nightcrawler, voiced by Adrian Hough (The Dragon Prince, The Clockwork Girl), and that they shared the same mother, Mystique. The revelation adds another layer of complexity to the already fractured family dynamic, setting the stage for an emotional and brutal confrontation. During the climactic battle, Graydon Creed is ultimately killed, but Nightcrawler refuses to let vengeance consume him. Instead of taking Creed’s life himself, Nightcrawler chooses mercy, using his teleportation abilities to remove Creed from the fight rather than becoming the executioner.
Reported by Comicbook, a clip was revealed at this year’s comic-con, which confirms the long-awaited return of the superhero team, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which consists of Blob, Pyro, Toad, Avalanche, and Surge. This is hinting that Creed will be successful in his presidential campaign and will launch the sentinel program, with the darkest day of mutantkind about to come a reality.
As stated by Comicbook, this isn’t the only danger. At the end of the episode, we see Apocalypse’s dead body being discovered alongside a burned playing card, suggesting that the resurrected Gambit, voiced by A.J. LoCascio (Marvel Rivals, Voltron: Legendary Defender), was responsible. Many fans have theorized that when Apocalypse revived Gambit, he transferred his mind into Gambit’s body, making him the Horseman of Death.
Marvel has already confirmed that X-Men ’97’s season three is complete and scheduled to arrive in 2027 and seek to extend it for a fourth season. All current episode of X-Men 97’s second season are available to stream on Disney+ with the final two episodes scheduled to drop on August 5 and 12.
