How I Met Your Mother will soon be entering its final season. However, this might not be the end of the story.
How I Met Your Mother executive producer Carter Bays recently told TV Guide that he is “not ruling out the possibility of a relationship-themed spinoff” of How I Met Your Mother. This possible spin-off could follow either of the two established couples from the original show. The show could be about Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) as they raise their baby, Marvin. Or it could follow Robin (Colbie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), whose wedding will be the setting for season 9 of How I Met Your Mother.
Executive producer Craig Thomas jokingly told TVLine, “We’ve had conversations about rewinding back to 2005 and doing a series called How I Met Your Father. From the perspective of what was happening with the Mother all those years. Occasionally, she’ll stumble through McLaren’s and no one will see her.”
How I Met Your Mother returns for its ninth and final season on Monday, September 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
