Spike Lee to Direct New ROTC Drama at Amazon Studios

Spike Lee (Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X) is set to direct and executive produce Amazon Studios’ new coming-of-age ROTC drama from writers and military veterans Jalysa Conway  (9-1-1: Lone Star, Grey’s Anatomy) and Rebecca Murga (Swagger), according to Deadline.  The series follows the stories of several students from all different walks of life as they go through rigorous ROTC military program at a major university, and push themselves to limits they never thought were possible, via Deadline. Along with Lee, Conway and Murga are also set to executive produce the series, as well as Steven Jackson (Emalutated Flux) and Trevor Engelson (All About Steve, License to Wed), via Deadline

 

 

Lee’s directing career spans over 30 years, with his 2018 feature BlacKkKlansman earning him DGA Award and Oscar nominations, via Deadline. In 2021, Lee became the first Black director to receive the DGA’s highest honor, its Lifetime Achievement Award, via Deadline

Conway is an Air Force veteran and Murga is a U.S. Army veteran. The Untitled ROTC Project draws from their personal experiences they went through in ROTC to help pay for college before embarking on active military duty, according to Deadline. Conway and Murga teamed up for the ROTC drama after having previously worked together in the Rideback TV Incubator, residency program where writers from diverse backgrounds get the opportunity to create their own shows, via Deadline.
