According to Variety, after a two-year hiatus, the adult animated series South Park will return with a brand-new season. The new season in the franchise fashion takes shots at many events that have recently happened. The new events that will be seen in the new season are a violent war against Canada’s overflowing toilets, ketamine and a space-traveling Diddy. The new season of South Park will premiere on July 9.
The series also revealed a new teaser trailer for the upcoming season, which can be seen below.
Created by Trey Parker (South Park: Joining the Panderverse) and Matt Stone (South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut), South Park follows the chaotic adventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the small town of South Park, Colorado. The series is known for its profanity and dark humor as each episode tries to push the limits of what it means to go too far. The series will now span a total of 27 seasons, one movie and seven specials.
As per Variety, the last season of the series aired two years ago and did not air during the 2024 election. Parker and Stone said this was somewhat “on purpose” as they no longer have any interest in publicly criticizing Donald Trump (The Apprentice, Home Alone).
“We’ve tried to do ‘South Park’ through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,”
“Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump,” Parker added.
South Park executive produced by Parker and Stone alongside Anne Garefino (Team America: World Police) and Frank C. Agnone II (The Bubble). Eric Stough (South Park: Post COVID), Adrien Beard (South Park: Imaginationland), Bruce Howell (South Park: Joining the Panderverse) and Vernon Chatman (The Shivering Truth) are producers. Christopher Brion (The Rum Diary) is the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.
