Sophie Turner Joins the Starry Cast of HBO Max’s ‘The Staircase’

Sophie Turner is joining the all-star cast of The Staircase on HBO Max, according to Variety. Turner will appear opposite previously announced cast members Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Toni Collette (The United States of Tara), Parker Posey (Lost in Space), Juliette Binoche (Call My Agent!), and Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere).

The eight-episode limited series will tell the story of Michael Peterson (Firth) and the criminal case against him in the wake of his wife Kathleen’s (Collette) suspicious death, according to Variety. Turner will play Margaret Ratliff, the adopted daughter of Michael Peterson.

Turner received a Best Supporting Actress Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Sansa Stark in the hugely-popular HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. She starred as Jean Grey in two X-Men films, X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Her additional film appearances include Heavy, Time Freak, Josie and Barely Lethal.

The Staircase was ordered to series in March and is based on the Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s Peabody Award-winning docuseries from 2004 as well as books and reports about the case, according to Variety. Netflix released it as a 13-episode docuseries in 2018, adding three new episodes as a follow up to Peterson’s case.

Variety reports that Antonio Campos (Christine) and Maggie Cohn (American Crime Story) are on board as showrunners and executive producers. HBO Max and Annapurna co-produce the series.
