Sophie Turner Channels Lara Croft In First-Look Image For Prime Video’s New ‘Tomb Raider’ Series

According to Prime Video’s press release, production of new Tomb Raider series has officially begun, offering fans a first glimpse at Sophie Turner as the renowned adventurer Lara Croft. As the renowned archeologist, Turner offers a new and aggressive interpretation of the role, fusing action and intelligence. Turner, best known for Survive and Game of Thrones, takes on a role that has delighted gamers for decades.

As reported by Prime Video’s press release, the cast also includes Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters), who brings decades of action and sci-fi experience, and Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, The OA), adding his signature intensity to the series. British talent Martin Bobb-Semple (The Hour of the Pig, The Watch) and Jack Bannon (Endeavour, The Ipcress File) are also on board, giving the show extra depth with their stage and screen experience.

Prime Video’s press release shared that the cast members will include John Heffernan (Poldark, The Man Who Fell to Earth) and Bill Paterson (The Witches, Outlander), along with Paterson Joseph (The Leftovers, Peaky Blinders), all contributing veteran talent. Prime Video also confirmed Sasha Luss (Anna, The Last Letter from Your Lover) and Juliette Motamed (We Are Lady Parts, Doctor Who), who bring energy and agility to the mix, and Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Calendar Girls) and August Wittgenstein (Murder on the Orient Express, The Last Kingdom) round out the ensemble with seasoned performances.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) is working behind the scenes as a co-showrunner, executive producer, writer, and creator, according to a press release from Prime Video. Jonathan Van Tulleken (Inside the Human Body, The Surgeon’s Cut) is directing and executive producing alongside her, while Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines, Good Behavior) serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Per Prime Video’s Press Release,  this team is committed to telling Lara Croft’s journey in a high-stakes, cinematic manner.

The series is further supported by executive producers Jenny Robins (Fleabag, Catastrophe), Dmitri M. Johnson (The Mandalorian, Jack Ryan), Michael Lawrence Goldberg (The Spy, Hunters), Timothy I. Stevenson (The Outsider, Counterpart), and Dallas Dickinson (The Peripheral, The Umbrella Academy), along with Michael Scheel (Raised by Wolves, Raised Eyebrows) and Legendary Television. Co-executive producers Matt McInnis (The Wheel of Time, Good Omens) and Jan R. Martin (His Dark Materials, The Third Day) also play key roles, noted to Prime Video’s Press Release.

The show, which is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios, promises to make the Tomb Raider universe come to life for both die-hard fans and newbies. According to Prime Video, the series will honor the history of video games while offering a serialized journey full of emotion, action, and suspense.
