Over the weekend, some casting news about Disney+‘s The Mandalorian was revealed. According to Comicbook.com, an Instagram post from Disney’s German Instagram account confirmed Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap, Daredevil) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified, The Crazies) would appear in the show’s second season.
The news was revealed in a tweet by @KRTransmissions on Oct. 2nd, according to Comicbook.com. The tweet stated: “The Disney Plus Denmark Instagram story confirms Rosario Dawson and Timothy Olyphant for The Mandalorian Season 2.” They later corrected their first statement attributing the post to Germany.
For months, rumors have circulated on the possible season two cast, and who they would be playing. According to Comicbook.com, early speculations believed Dawson would play Ahsoka Tano, a character derived in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And Olyphant’s alleged character was still unknown. While this development doesn’t confirm their roles, it solidifies Dawson and Olyphant are attached.
The Mandalorian recently racked up 10 wins at last month’s Emmy Awards, via Comicbook.com. Nominated for a staggering 15, including Outstanding Drama Series, the Disney+ series won Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program (Half-Hour), Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour), Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour), Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour), Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Drama Series, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects. It also scored a win through composer Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, Fruitvale Station) for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score).
Starring Pedro Pascal (Wonder Woman 1984, Narcos), the series is set in the Star Wars universe sometime after The Return of the Jedi. Sworn by the code of The Mandalorians, a bounty hunter diverges from a mission after discovering his target is an innocent child connected to a legend of sorcery. The show also stars Carl Weathers (Happy Gilmore, The Comebacks), Gina Carano (Haywire, Deadpool), and Giancarlo Esposito (The Boys, Dear White People). The second season debuts October 30.
