‘SNL’ Takes Jabs At Republican Party And The Grammys

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live recently sparked a heated beginning to the second episode of the season by making a parody of the chaos amid the Republican Party. Along with this opener, Bad Bunny also made an appearance in the show. The excitement of the episode was perfect to commemorate how long the show has been running, with this being the official 49th season.

The Hollywood Reporter gave insight on the episode, claiming that “The cold open saw Mikey Day’s Rep. Jim Jordan distraught after his bid for House Speaker failed for third time. After Kevin McCarthy was ousted as House Speaker last month, Republicans have been sinking deeper into turmoil amid their division on who should claim the spot. On Friday, Republicans abruptly decided to drop Jordan, an ally of Donald Trump, as their nominee.”

Among the skits, the show also saw Bad Bunny host for the first time, says The Hollywood Reporter. Critics claimed he couldn’t host due to English being his second language, but he shut them down by saying, “People are wondering if I can’t host this show because English is not my first language. I don’t know if they know, but I do whatever I want. I can host this show in English. I can order McDonald’s in English. I can have sex in English. But I prefer sex in Spanish because it’s just better.”

Bad Bunny wasn’t the only guest featured on the show that day, however. Lady Gaga (American Horror Story), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), and Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones) also made appearances, claims The Hollywood Reporter. Bad Bunny also made references to The Grammys, where the projectors did not translate his songs in the captions, instead simply putting “singing in non-English.” To emulate this, his set in the show put “speaking in non-English” just like the Grammys had done.
