According to Deadline, Showtime has revealed the key art and official trailer for season six of Lena Waithe’s (Twenties, Master of None) The Chi. The sixth season is split into two parts with eight episodes each. Part one will premiere on August 4 on Paramount+ and on demand and will debut on the linear network on Sunday, August 6 at 9 p.m.
The series is a coming-of-age story that follows a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago. They become linked by coincidence and bonded by the need for redemption and connection.
The Chi is produced by 20th Television and is executive produced by Common (Selma, Silo) and Waithe through her Hillman Grad Banner.
Season six of The Chi stars Alex Hibbert (Moonlight, Black Panther), Curtiss Cook (Manifest, Chicago Med), Shamon Brown Jr. (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Chi), Jacob Latimore (House Party, Candy Jar), Luke James (Star, Little), Birgundi Baker (Praise This, The Last Shift), and Michael V. Epps (Chicago Med, Chicago Fire). Guest stars will include Kandi Burruss (The Real Housewives of Atlanta, The Masked Singer), Jason Weaver (The Lion King, Smart Guy), Vic Mensa (Sherman’s Showcase, South Side), and Carolyn Michelle Smith (Colony, House of Cards).
“The Chi is Showtime at its best – complex characters and sophisticated storytelling that leave our viewers wanting more, which is why we’ve expanded this season to its biggest yet,” said President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, Chris McCarthy, in a statement, according to Deadline, “Lena is a gifted creator and we’re fortunate to collaborate with her on this iconic series – one of our biggest – as we continue to lean into diverse cultures, one of our key programming lanes, that you’ll see us build out as we gear up to launch Paramount+ with Showtime.”
