According to The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime has just revealed the new cast for their upcoming prequel to the psychological crime drama Dexter. The new cast includes Patrick Gibson (Before We Die, Shadow and Bone) as Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater (The Spiderwick Chronicles, Archer) as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s father, and Molly Brown (Senior Year, The Good House) as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s sister. The new series titled Dexter: Original Sin was ordered in February 2023 by the Showtime network and is scheduled to have ten episodes.
The new series Dexter: Original Sin will follow the mysterious dark story of a young Dexter Morgan, set in 1991 Miami, 15 years before the events of the original Dexter series. Viewers will see a young Dexter go from a regular student to the avenging serial killer fans know him to be. The series will show more of the ins and outs of how Dexter got started on his killings. The young Dexter adopts the Morgan code taught to him by his father, who helps him in his new endeavors, which allows him to eliminate people who deserve to be erased from society. While starting his new dark hobby, Dexter joins a forensic internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clyde Phillips (Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Dexter: New Blood), the showrunner behind the original Dexter, will be returning to work on the series. Executive producers include Phillips, Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, Star vs. the Forces of Evil), Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones, The Following), Mary Leah Sutton (Time After Time, Tell Me a Story), Tony Hernandez (Broad City, Russian Doll), Lilly Burns (Search Party, Hack Into Broad City), Robert Lloyd Lewis (The Lincoln Lawyer, Method & Red) and Michael Lehmann (American Horror Story, Hudson Hawk).
Showtime has yet to reveal an official premiere date for Dexter: Original Sin. However, the Dexter series is available to stream on Hulu.
