According to Comicbook, showrunners of Netflix’s Cobra Kai give much-anticipated update on the final season of the series. Many fans of the series have been waiting for the next season since season five premiered in September 2022. Although the final season of the series was originally scheduled to premiere this year, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year, Cobra Kai had to inevitably delay its premiere.
Cobra Kai is a sequel to the 1984 Karate Kid film that is set thirty-four years after the events of the film. The series finds Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence back at being martial arts rivals. This time not only are they against one another in the sport but so are their students.
According to Comicbook, showrunners Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), Jon Hurwitz (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), and Hayden Schlossberg (Obliterated) spoke with Deadline and were asked about their return to working on the series as well as when fans could expect the premiere. In the conversation, they stated that ever since the WGA strike, ended the writing process for the final season of the series started back up and that filming for the season will start in a few weeks.
Heal said, “We are in the writers’ room working feverishly and we have been since the WGA strike ended. We are thrilled that the SAG-AFTRA strike has also ended. We are going back into production after the new year on the biggest, boldest season we’ve done yet.”
When asked about the possibility of the season airing in 2024 Schlossberg said, “With the only caveat being that nothing else happens in the industry. That’s the hope to get this out ASAP for the fans who have been waiting.”
