‘Sherman’s Showcase’ Renewed and Set to Air on Both IFC and AMC

Audiences can expect more irreverent humor from Sherman McDaniels & Co. Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Sherman’s Showcase has been renewed by IFC for a second season. The new episodes will air on both IFC and their sister network, AMC.

The move signals a vote of confidence for the offbeat, critically acclaimed sketch comedy show, since AMC reaches over 15 million more homes than IFC. Similar series that had fallen off the radar received a high ratings bump after being aired on AMC, such as, Killing Eve which saw a 87% bump in viewers from AMC’s audiance.

Sherman’s Showcase is a variety show inspired by American Bandstand and In Living Color. The sketches and musical performances within the show are presented as clips from the 40+ year career of Sherman McDaniels, a fictional celebrity who hosted a musical variety show in the vein of Soul Train. It was created and executive produced by Bashir Salahuddin (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) and Diallo Riddle (South Side).

Its creators told The Hollywood Reporter: “Sherman McDaniels has been a staple in American culture for almost 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down … or aging at all. We’re thrilled to return to the uniquely nerdy, quirky, silkily soulful and musical world of Sherman’s Showcase. It’s all our favorite things and now it’s on AMC and IFC. Season two’s so big, it needs two networks.”

Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, also chimed in, saying: “It’s rare today for a show to develop a highly passionate fanbase, get raves from critics and infiltrate popular culture. Sherman’s Showcase has done all three, and we’re thrilled to put it in front of AMC audiences alongside IFC’s devoted fans. Bashir and Diallo are fantastically talented, we are all waiting with baited breath to collectively witness the continued evolution of Sherman McDaniels, American icon,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The news comes two days before their special, The Sherman’s Showcase Black History Month Spectacular, is set to air on AMC Friday night with re-runs planned for IFC.
