To help celebrate the famous soap opera’s 50th birthday on CBS, The Young and the Restless is bringing Shemar Moore’s character in a special appearance back to Genoa City. The S.W.A.T. and Criminal Minds actor will reprise his role as Malcolm Winters on Monday, May. 8, via Deadline.
In the episode, Malcolm returns to town to connect with his daughter Lily (Christel Khalil) and nephews Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic).
Originally departing as a main character from the show in 2007, Moore has made several appearances on the sudser since leaving the series, most recently in 2019 for special tribute episodes after the passing of the late Kristoff St. John (Generations), who played Moore’s onscreen brother Neil. Moore went on to star in Criminal Minds and now plays Sergeant Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson on S.W.A.T., which is still producing and airing new seasons on CBS. It is currently in its seventh season.
The Young and The Restless, the Daytime Emmy Award-winning CBS show, kicked off its 50th anniversary season in September. It has been celebrating in many different ways, from crossing over with its spinoff show The Bold and The Beautiful, to new, exclusive cast photos , and this announcement of Moore’s return. The Young and the Restless achieved a major feat on March 27: airing over 12,500 episodes, totaling more than 9,000 hours of television.
Set in Genoa City, this is the long-running soap opera on television that tells the story of the struggle behind the business, and sex-savvy Abbott and Newman families. Created by William J. Bell (As the World Turns, Days of Our Lives) and Lee Phillip Bell (The Bold and the Beautiful), the show won 11 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series. It is also currently the highest-rated daytime drama on American television, a rank it has held for 34 years as of the end of the 2021–22 season.
