Demetrius Grosse Cast As Grim Reaper in ‘Wonder Man’

Disney+’s Wonder Man has announced brother and likely foe to its star character. Demetrius Grosse (Swagger, Justified) has been cast as Eric Williams, aka Grim Reaper, brother of Simon William, aka Wonder Man, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Candyman), according to TV Line.

According to Collider, Grosse’s character, Eric, was considered to be the black sheep of his family. Simon, considered the gem of his family, shunned Eric, leading him down a path of criminality and aggression. Eric ultimately became the Grim Reaper, wielding a scythe that could induce comas and granting him fearsome power.

Wonder Man was created by Stan Lee (Doctor Strange, Black Panther) and illustrated by Jack Kirby (Black Panther, Avengers: Endgame) and Don Heck (Iron Man, Avengers: Endgame). It was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 1964 with The Avengers #9. Wonder Man is the son of  Sanford Williams, an industrialist. Simon takes over his father’s successful ammunition business after his death but finds his progress hindered when he goes head-to-head with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries, eventually gaining ion-based superpowers and super strength.

After establishing himself as an antagonist to The Avengers while working under Baron Zemo, Wonder Man ultimately has a change of heart and decides to join the superhero team. With the help of fellow superhero Hercules, he then pursues a career in Hollywood, developing an interest in acting.

In the upcoming series, Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast, Gandhi) is set to reprise his role as Trevor Slattery, according to Disney Plus Informer. Kingsley portrayed a failed actor who impersonated the main villain in Iron Man 3 and was ultimately stopped by Tony Stark.

In addition to Kingsley, Lauren Glazier (Gone Girl, Mindhuter) and Bob Odenkirk (Nobody, Better Call Saul) will also be joining the cast in undisclosed roles, according to Disney Plus Informer.

Wonder Man is set to begin production this spring and will continue through August, according to Disney Plus Informer. The series will consist of ten episodes, and the release date has not yet been disclosed.
