The third broadcast of the Twitter famous Syfy original movie “Sharknado” received ratings boosting beyond the viewership of the previous two showings landing the film at its highest rating.
Saturday’s viewing of “Sharknado” reeled in 2.1 million viewers. The initial broadcast brought in a decent average (for a Syfy original film) of 1.4 million and the July 17 encore brought in 1.9 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Syfy has already approved a New York-set “Sharknado” sequel, scheduled to premiere in July 2014, and the flick is even getting a limited late-night run in cinemas, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Among adults 25-54 and 18-49, the “Sharknado” repeat captivated a respective 863,000 and 791,000 viewers–and with a 1.4 rating among households, it stands as the most-watched encore of a Syfy original in network history, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
With the combination of high pressures from Twitter fanatics and low pressures of the low budget chaos of a SyFy original movie, the tweetnado may continue to perpetuate through Shark Week (August 4) to land the movie’s highest ratings during their final encore on August 22.
