Major news surrounding Netflix’s animated action-thriller series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch has arisen, and the creator, Derek Kolstad (Nobody, John Wick) goes into further details about what the future looks for the series. According to Screenrant, the main plot of the series follows a retired agent, Sam Fisher, voiced by Liev Schreiber (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, American Dad!), who is drawn back and must help a young operative, Zinnia McKenna, voiced by Kirby Howell Baptiste (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Infinity Train) untangle a mystery.
Screenrant’s Joe Deckelmeier goes on to speak with Kolstad in an interview in which he starts with,”Now if Deathwatch lands the way that the fans hope, do you see this as a one-off? Or you were already thinking about what Sam’s next journey in future seasons could look like. And if Netflix does greenlight a season 2, would it continue Sam’s journey from here and build towards something bigger? Or do you feel like this is more an anthology, new mission, new chapter, new world each time?
Kolstad gives a response to the questions by Screenrant,” I think that you look at our favorite franchises, you go back for the character. What I don’t want to do is do that thing that happens in successful franchises where it gets so big. You’re like, “Where do we go from here?”
Reported by Screenrant, the series finale wrapped up the main storyline, with all of the antagonists defeated, but ultimately left the central duo to abandon their mission. While the ending feels conclusive, it also leaves room to explore new eras and characters. One possible story that could be explored further is the aftermath, in which the splinter program is in danger.
While waiting on further information on the second season confirmation, viewers can watch the entire first season of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch on Netflix.
