The Studio has continued to rack up awards this season. The show has received honors at both the Golden Globes and the DGA awards. The wins have been bittersweet, as the show has recently lost one of its cast members, Catherine O’Hara.
According to Deadline, during his speech at the DGA awards for Best Comedy Series, director Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg took a moment to honor the recently deceased actress. “Honestly, there’s no one we wish we could thank in person at this moment more than we would love to thank Catherine O’Hara.”
Co-creator Evan Goldberg also received an award for co-directing the episode “The Magic Hour.” Goldberg spoke on their shared heritage as Canadians, “We grew up in Canada, and she is and was quite literally our idol since we were children,” via Deadline.
Rogen continued to add to his co-creator’s remarks on O’Hara. “And the best part of her is that she showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world. It was an honor to get to direct her every day and we worked very hard to make the show good enough to warrant her time and her presence So, ultimately, we would like to thank the DGA for this, but we would mostly like to thank Catherine O’Hara for being such a wonderful person and for blessing us with your presence,”via Deadline.
Deadline has reported that O’hara played the former head of the titular studio. After Rogen’s character replaces her, they have a brief falling-out before eventually reconciling after striking a lucrative producing deal. She was nominated for best supporting actress at the 2025 Emmys.
Deadline has reported that O’hara passed away at the age of 71 last week. According to mxdwn, O’hara started her career on the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV before working on other comedy classics, including Schitt’s Creek. Snl briefly honored the memory last week. O’hara was an extremely brief cast member and two-time host of Lorne Michaels’ variety series.
