Sebastian Roché (1923, Supernatural, The Originals) will make his K-drama debut in Netflix’s Queen of Tears, which premieres on March 9th, according to Deadline. He’ll play Dr. Braun, a German physician who has a fascinating connection to the two main characters.
The show centers on Kim Ji-won’s (My Liberation Notes, Lovestruck in the City) Hong Hae-in, the queen of department stores. She has been married for three years to Kim Soo-hyun’s (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, My Love from The Star) Baek Hyeon-u, the prince of supermarkets, according to Deadline. As the couple works through a marital crisis, they discover a miraculous new beginning that radically alters their love story.
With a guest appearance by Song Joongki (Reborn Rich, The Innocent Man), the additional cast members are Kwak Dong-yeon (Never Twice, Big Mouth), Lee Joo Bin (She Would Never Knew, Doctor Lawyer), and Park Sung-hoon (The Glory, Kidnapping Day).
Park Ji-eun (Crash Landing on You, Queen of Housewives) is the writer of Queen of Tears. Kim Hee-won (The Man from Nowhere, House on Wheels), and Jang Young-woo (Mr.Sunshine, Sweet Home) are the directors.
Deadline reports that right now, Roché is starring opposite Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Blade Runner) and Helen Mirren (Catherine the Great, Shazam! Fury of the Gods) in Paramount’s Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Wind River) series 1923. He’ll be back for season two playing Father Renaud once more. He had an appearance on Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities, curated by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth), prior to that.
According to Deadline, Roché has worked alongside many stars in his career such as Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Closer) and James Cromwell (The Green Mile, Star Trek: First Contact) in HBO’s The Young Pope, while Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle stars in the same capacity. He played a supporting role in The Last of the Mohicans and costarred in the Broadway production of Salome with Al Pacino (The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon). In addition, to costarring with Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, 10 Things I Hate About You) in Roar and Vera Farmiga (Orphan, Bates Motel), The Crossing, starring Jeff Daniels (The Squid and the Whale, Dumb and Dumber); and 15 Minutes, starring Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) are some of his other early roles.
In addition, Roché voiced Tintin in Steven Spielberg’s (Saving Private Ryan, Schinder’s List) animated film The Adventures of Tintin, acted opposite Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy, Deadpool) and Denzel Washington (Fences, The Book of Eli) in Safe House, and starred in Beowulf with Anthony Hopkins (Nixon, Hitchcock) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent, Salt).
