The Apple TV+ original comedy series Ted Lasso premiered on August 14, 2020, for the streaming platform to much commercial and critical acclaim. According to Screen Rant, the series will now have 12 episode second season as opposed to its first season which was ten episodes. With the success of the series, Ted Lasso has already obtained a third season renewal ahead of its second season premiere.
The Jason Sudeikis-led (Saturday Night Live, We’re The Millers) comedy series centers around a former college football coach transitioning to coaching a Premier League soccer team, named AFC Richmond. While he has made this transition, Sudeikis’ titular character possesses no prior experience in coaching a professional soccer, or football, team. The series cast includes Sudeikis alongside Jeremy Swift (The Smoking Room), Hannah Waddingham (Game of Thrones), Brett Goldstein (Soulmates), Brendan Hunt (Fallout 4, We’re The Millers), Nick Mohammed (Christopher Robin), Phil Dunster (Humans), and Juno Temple (Vinyl, Black Mass). Ted Lasso hails from the co-creator team of Sudeikis, Hunt, Bill Lawrence (Clone High, Scrubs), and Joe Kelly (How I Met Your Mother, Detroiters).
Ted Lasso is a part of the slate of original content for the Apple TV+ streaming service, which launched on November 1, 2019. The series is a part of the list of programming such as The Morning Show, Servant, Defending Jacob, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, Central Park, The Snoopy Show, and many more. Regardless of its streaming service brother and sister series, Ted Lasso has managed to receive two Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Series of Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for a Television Series Musical or Comedy for Sudeikis role.
One reasoning for the expansion of its second season was revealed by cast member Temple. Temple stated in an interview with Collider that the production continued for longer than anticipated. “Well, we’ve joyously been picked up for few extra episodes this season. So it’s a longer shot due to actually shooting more,” said Temple, via Collider. The production for the second series began in January, yet there is no confirmed premiere date for the second season at this current time.
