Season three of Netflix’s Heartstopper will now be premiering in October, Deadline reports. The third season will feature eight episodes and will focus on the blossoming yet growing love between the characters of Charlie, played by Joe Locke (Agatha: Darkhold Diaries), and Nick, played by Kit Connor (Rocketman, His Dark Materials, Grandpa’s Great Escape).
The series creator, Alice Oseman (Heartstopper, This Winter: A Heartstopper Novel, Nick and Charlie: A Heartstopper Story), has shared more information on the show’s growth, at Netflix’s Tudum event, via Deadline. Oseman stated, “Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through Season Three. While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood.”
Netflix, according to the official description from their X/Twitter post, explained what season three will be about, via Deadline: “Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties, and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”
Back in November, Oseman shared an Instagram post about new key season three character, which is seen in the writer’s first novel named Solitaire: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Darragh Hand (Wake Wood, Silent Witness, Grace) as Michael Holden to the Heartstopper family,” Oseman explained, via Deadline. “Michael is a quirky, eccentric optimist with a sunshine disposition, and it was a challenge to find someone who I felt truly channelled Michael from the books. But then Darragh came along and warmed our hearts, made us all laugh so much and perfectly complimented Jenny Walser’s Tori… ”
The Heartstopper series, according to Deadline, features stars William Gao (Crescendo, Sunrise, Celebrity Gogglebox), Yasmin Finney (Mars, Doctor Who, All About), Kizzy Edgell (Dead Red Kite, Girl Stuff Podcast), Tobie Donovan (Girl Stuff Podcast), and Corinna Brown (The Kitchen, Supacell). The coming-of-age series is executive produced and written by Oseman, who is also the showrunner, and Patrick Walters (The Essex Serpent, The End, Slow Horses). Andy Newbery (Hidden, 15 Days, Keeping Faith) and Walters are the directors for this upcoming third season.
The first two seasons of Heartstopper are available for streaming now.
