Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is set to air its final season on August 9, 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Tim Federle (Sister Act 3, Better Nate Than Ever) will continue to work with Disney+ even after the show has run its course. Many viewers are sad to see the show go but ecstatic after seeing the new season four trailer!
Rather than airing once a week, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will drop on Disney+ as a binge release, making all eight episodes available on August ninth.
But where did the Wildcats leave us at the end of season three? The Wildcats are returning home from camp to their senior year of high school. As they prepare to put on a production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Disney throws their production off the rails when it’s announced that the High School Musical 4: The Reunion will be filmed in their school. Sadly, this is a fictitious announcement and, as far as the public knows, there will be no High School Musical reunion film.
In season four, you can expect to see Sofia Wylie (Andi Mack, The School for Good and Evil), Julia Lester (Bella and the Bulldogs, Mom), Liamani Segura (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), Joshua Bassett (Better Nate Than Ever, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again), Kate Reinders (Work It, Russell Madness), Dara Renee (Freaky Friday, Descendants: The Rise of Red) and Frankie Rodriguez (Only Children, Call Me Daddy).
In an instagram post, Federle stated that “this will be our final, endgame season. This show brought the most extraordinary cast – and crew, and collaborators – to my life. To the fans who embraced our super-meta series, we don’t not love you.”
The Hollywood Reporter also said that Federle stated that “this series was always about found family, and about making something you love with people you love. In other words, it was a tribute to theater kids… I can’t wait for our dedicated fan base to watch this world-class cast take a final bow.”
