Yes Mr. Mayor…we’re ready to return to Hawkins, Indiana. Season 3 of Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things will begin filming this week. According to ComicBook.com, the cast has already participated in table reads of the season’s first four shows.
Producer Shawn Levy noted season 3 will have the same number of episodes as season 1 (cutting us back to 8 from season 2’s 10 shows). He’ll also take on directing duties for a few shows to allow the Duffer Brothers to continue writing. He went on to note, “That’s why I took on these episodes in Season One, and now the three of us are just a little too superstitious to mess with what’s worked so far.”
Levy went on to confirm they have plans for a season 4. He said the brothers work on full seasons at a time but often get distracted with new ideas that may take on new turns. “We’re always ready for shifts and surprises because if the Duffers stumble into a different or surprising inspiration while they rewrite the script, we’re going to follow that inspiration and throw out some ideas in order to embrace some new ones that are more exciting. And I have no doubt that Season 3 will be no exception.”
As reported previously, some characters have been upgraded to regular status while a few new faces will appear in Hawkins. Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) takes on the role of the town’s Mayor while Jake Busey (Starship Troopers) works on his journalism skills as a reporter.
The youngsters of Stranger Things also made headlines this year as it was reported they’re all receiving a nice bump in salary comparable to their adult co-stars.
