Netflix has released their first teaser trailer for Ozark which announces that the premiere date for their second season will be August 31st. The series stars both Jason Bateman (Marty Byrde) and Laura Linney (Wendy Byrde), as well as, Julia Garner (19-year-old dangerous criminal, Ruth Langmore) and the newcomer for season two Janet McTeer (Helen Pierce). The teaser trailer does emphasize some dark foreboding moments.
Here is the trailer:
In the second season, the Byrde family has to continue to steer through the money laundering for the cartel in drug cartel waters. According to TVLine the official logline for the series is, “the crime syndicate sends their ruthless attorney Helen Pierce to town to shake things up just as The Byrdes are finally settling in. Marty and Wendy struggle to balance their family interests amid the escalating dangers presented by their partnerships with the power-hungry Snells, the cartel and their new deputy, Ruth Langmore, whose father Cade [Trevor Long] has been released from prison. The stakes are even higher than before, and the Byrdes soon realize they have to go all in before they can get out.”
During the FYC event earlier this month, Bateman said that season two will pick up right where it left off in season one with the Bryde family reunited; however, for season two the stakes are much higher. Marty now has twice the amount of cash to launder, but it is not tourist season anymore forcing him to get more creative. Also, his relationship with Ruth will be challenged and she will have an identity crisis.
Ozark returns with a ten episode season on August 31st on Netflix.
