Scoot McNairy is the Latest to Join ‘True Detective’ Season 3

Plans for the next installment of True Detective are motoring along as Scoot McNairy has joined the cast, Deadline reports. HBO has steadily been accumulating actors for the third season of its dark crime anthology series, and a stream of casting announcements have been circulating for the past few months.

This week, McNairy was the latest actor to be added to the series. The actor, best known for his work on Halt and Catch Fire and Godless, will take on the role of Tom in True Detective season 3. Tom is a father who has suffered a troubling loss that causes him to become involved with the two detectives who serve as the season’s protagonists.

The acclaimed Halt and Catch Fire finished its last season on AMC this past fall. With True Detective, McNairy will add another prestigious television series to his resume.

Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff have been cast as the two detectives at the heart of True Detective season 3. They are joined by Carmen Ejogo, who plays an Arkansas schoolteacher wrapped up in the investigation.

Season 3 will take place in the Ozarks and will follow a complicated mystery that spans three separate time periods. Series creator Nic Pizolatto is the showrunner and sole writer for the newest season. Pizolatto will share the directing duties with Jeremy Saulnier through the season.
