Deadline shared the news of Executive Producer Peter Engels (Saved By The Bell) passing at 88. His loved ones confirmed his passing Tuesday in his Santa Monica home. The cause of death was not reported.
Engel was a beloved and well-known producer. Engel was best known for the hit sitcom Saved By The Bell. The show ran from 1989-1992 and left a mark on television forever. The show has a perfect plot for a sitcom as we follow a group of six friends attending high school in California. Saved By The Bell also had a few TV movie spin-offs such as Saved By The Bell: Hawaiian Style, and Saved By The Bell: Wedding In Las Vegas. Deadline shared that Engel created more than 1,000 hours of TV and a 40-year career. Engel worked with NBC for the majority of his career. Most of his shows were made for NBC with their partnership. Not only did he executive produce, Engel also wrote for a few shows as well. Some of his other works include City Guys and Malibu CA. City Guys ran from 1997-2001. Engel has writing credits for over 100 episodes. The show is another sitcom this time following high school students attending a Manhattan High School. City Guys was yet another hit when it came to Engel’s works. Malibu CA ran from 1998-2000 following the sitcom format but this time it focused on twin brothers who moved from New York City to California providing great comedy for viewers.
Deadline reported Engel began his career at the NBC Page program at 30 Rock. During his time Engel also wrote a memoir titled I Was Saved By The Bell: Stories Of Life, Love, and Dreams That Do Come True. The book was published in 2016 and told his personal stories about his career and life. Fans carry Engels’ works with them as he is remembered by his family.
