Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is preparing for its biggest leap yet, with the upcoming third season laying the foundation to bring the story ever closer to the iconic events of The Fellowship of the Ring.
According to Comicbook, the heart of the series remains the rise of Sauron, brought to life by Charlie Vickers (The Survivors, Palm Beach). Vickers’ character has steadily evolved, shifting from subtle deception as Halbrand into his full, terrifying Dark Lord persona. In the previous season, Sauron succeeded in obtaining the Nine Rings of Men—all part of his grand scheme to corrupt mortal rulers, bend the nations of Middle-earth to his will, and pave the way for his ultimate rule.
As reported by Comicbook, series co-showrunner Patrick McKay confirmed in an interview with Empire that the story in the upcoming season will be far more dangerous. “This third season is darker, more dangerous,” he said. “No one is safe.” McKay went on to reveal, “this is the season where Sauron makes the One Ring in the volcano.” Further excitement as Empire Magazine have released an thrilling front cover image of Sauron in his elf disguise while wearing a dark attire, with the caption stating ,” Hail Sauron! on set with the dark lord of mordor as he forges his ultimate weapon.

According to Comicbook, Sauron’s evolution isn’t the only one on display; audiences will also witness the continued growth of a young Gandalf—played by Daniel Weyman (Silent Witness, Treadstone)—as he slowly transforms into the familiar wizard complete with his iconic long beard, pointy gray hat, and wooden staff.
If executed perfectly, this season could fully transform the series into the grand Middle-earth saga audiences have been waiting for. With the third season scheduled for November 11, the first and second seasons of The Rings of Power are available to stream on Prime Video.
