In the season finale for Saturday Night Live, the long-running sketch comedy show surprised fans with past cast member Kristen Wiig as its guest host, according to Deadline. For its third at-home edition during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBC series surprised its audience with a guest host. After Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt delivered the surprise opening monologues on the previous two specials, Wiig made another return to the sketch show that brought her into the mainstream. Serving as a cast member from 2005 to 2012, Wiig has established herself as one of the show’s many bright stars before moving onto starring in successful films such as Bridesmaids, Skeleton Twins, and The Martian.
After a cold opening from Alec Baldwin (The Departed and 30 Rock) as Donald Trump, Wiig delivered the opening monologue from her home in a candlelight setting. The comedian began with some cracks on Zoom and Mother’s Day before thanking Moms and beginning the at-home episode with some theatrics.
In addition to Wiig’s return, Tina Fey (30 Rock and Mean Girls) made her return to Weekend Update providing her takes on Mother’s Day and the abundance of passwords that she’s been spending time with this quarantine, according to Deadline. Virtually calling in from her home, Fey exchanged jokes with current host Michael Che (The Daily Show). Check out her appearance below:
The 45th season finale of Saturday Night Live also featured guest appearances from Danny Trejo (Heat), Josh Gad (Frozen), and SNL alum Martin Short (The Martin Short Show).
