Per Deadline, it has been reported that Sarah Silverman’s short-lived online show has been cancelled by Hulu after only one season. The news was revealed earlier Wednesday morning via Twitter by the comedienne herself.
After finishing its run during last November, I Love You, America aired its twenty one episodes during its first season that the network split into two different sessions. Also in 2018, the series scored an Emmy nomination for outstanding variety sketch series and a Writer’s Guild of America nomination for best comedy/variety sketch series.
I Love You, America was originally given a straight-to-series order by Hulu, an unprecedented decision for the streaming network, which then propelled the service into the comedy/variety show genre. A format, that through out the years has waned in popularity for American television audiences.
Series’ episodes followed Silverman as she explored and lampooned the current political and cultural landscape of the country. Hulu’s official description describes the series as a show “with monologues about this very moment coming from her personal point of view, this show aims to venture out of our echo chambers and connect unlike-minded people. The show reunites ourselves with compassion and empathy without missing a comedic beat.”
Silverman can be seen by audiences in the recently released sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet as Vanellope von Schweetz and the Maroon 5 music video for the hit track Girls Like You.
