Ty Burrell casts his former Modern Family co-star, Sarah Hyland, in a new comedy pilot for ABC, according to Deadline. The multi-camera comedy series is currently in development.
The series, Yours, Mine, & Paul’s, follows a young woman named Lauren who agrees to be the surrogate for her best friend and his husband’s baby. Hyland (Modern Family, The Wedding Year) will play Lauren, who’s best friend is Paul. Lauren and Paul’s husband, Xander, can’t stand each other. The twist is that Paul dies in the first ten minutes of the pilot.
Now, Lauren is thrown into a paternal role and has to co-parent with a man she hates. At first, she liked the idea of being the center of the couples’ world and then not having to deal with the crying baby. Now that Paul is dead, she has to figure out her place in the relationship with Xander and the new baby, while grieving Paul at the same time.
Burrell (Modern Family, Finding Dory) has been pushing the script from the very beginning. Additionally, ABC and 20th Century Fox were hoping to get Hyland to headline a new comedy series.
The show will be executive produced by Burrell and Julia Meltzer (The Light In Her Eyes, P.O.V.) , with Burrell’s production company, Desert Whale Productions.
