Two-time Emmy nominee Sara Gilbert (The Big Bang Theory, The Conners) is set to join the cast of HBO Max’s The People V. Gorilla Grodd, as reported by Deadline. Gilbert will play an “important journalist,” although her exact character has yet to be announced.

She will star alongside Skylar Gisondo (Santa Clarita Diet, Primetime), who plays Jimmy Olsen and Jimmy Tatro (The Real Bros of Simi Valley, Life According to Jimmy), who plays Gorilla Grodd.

The eight-episode Superman spinoff series is presented as a “true crime” docuseries that follows a hyper-intelligent gorilla, Gorilla Grodd, who is convicted of the murder of his father, the king of Gorilla City. Jimmy Olsen of the Daily Planet investigates the case as he begins to question whether Grodd was actually guilty of the crime behind one of Metropolis’ most talked-about murder trials.

Several Superman actors will return to their roles in The People V. Gorilla Grodd, including Beck Bennet (Saturday Night Live, Greener Grass) playing Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) playing Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Waiting to Exhale) playing Perry White.

Additional cast members announced for The People V. Gorilla Grodd include Mary Holland (Happiest Season, Little House on the Prairie), Eduardo Franco (The Package, American Vandal), Arian Moayed (You Hurt My Feelings, House of Spoils), Dan Perrault (American Vandal, The Residence), Andrew Leeds (Major Payne, Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas), and Tim Baltz (Widow’s Bay, The Righteous Gemstones).

Tony Yacenda (American Vandal, Dave) and Dan Perrault (Strays, American Vandal) serve as showrunners and writers for the series. Yacenda, Perrault, James Gunn (Lanterns, Supergirl), and Peter Safran (My Adventures with Superman, Peacemaker) also serve as executive producers.
