Hulu’s upcoming Prison Break reboot has added six actors in recurring roles. According to Deadline, Sam Trammell (True Blood, Homeland, The Fault in Our Stars), Sean Bridgers (Room, The Woman, Sweet Home Alabama), Chris Coy (The End of Oak Street, Black Rabbit, Lanterns), Robin Weigert (Deadwood, Smile, The Good German), Jean Louisa Kelly (Uncle Buck, Top Gun: Maverick, Girl in the Attic) and Kerry Bishé (Argo, Red State, Madame Web) have joined the series.
The new additions join previously announced cast members Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, The Fox, One More Shot) as Cassidy, Drake Rodger (The Winchesters, Motorheads, Landman) as Tommy, Lukas Gage (The White Lotus, Euphoria, Smile 2) as Jackson, Clayton Cardenas (Mayor of Kingstown, American Crime, The Abandons) as Michael “Ghost,” JR Bourne (The 100, Teen Wolf, Somewhere Between) as Junior, Georgie Flores (Famous in Love, Dumplin’, CSI: NY) as Andrea, Kelli Berglund (Heels, Cherry, Lab Rats) as Cheyenne and Myles Bullock (BMF, White Men Can’t Jump, Runaways) as Darius “Red.”
According to the official description, the new series follows an ex-soldier who becomes a corrections officer at one of the most dangerous prisons in America in an effort to prove how far she is willing to go for someone she loves.
Trammell will portray Jarrod Boggs, a powerful figure with deep roots in West Virginia. Bridgers will play Hollis, a family man attempting to rebuild his life, while Bishé will portray Mary Smith, a mysterious and dangerous inmate. Weigert has been cast as Chaplain Bannon, who counsels prisoners, while Kelly will play Margaret, the new matriarch of an influential political family. Coy will portray Mule, an unpredictable and dangerous inmate.
The project comes from Elgin James (The Outlaws, Little Birds, Lowriders), who serves as showrunner and executive producer and will direct the pilot. Dawn Olmstead (Apex, The Experiment, The Lottery), an executive producer on the original series, will return to executive produce alongside Paul Scheuring (The Experiment, Prison Break, A Man Apart), Marty Adelstein (The Experiment, Made of Honor, One Piece) and Neal H. Moritz (Scary Movie, The Fast and the Furious, 21 Jump Street). The series is produced by 20th Television.
The reboot is set within the same universe as the original Prison Break, which premiered in 2005 and followed brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, played by Wentworth Miller (The Human Stain, Stoker, Underworld) and Dominic Purcell (Killer Elite, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash). The original series ran for four seasons before returning for a fifth season in 2017.
Trammell recently appeared in the final season of Euphoria and will also star in Prime Video’s The Gray House. Weigert is set to appear in Netflix’s The Altruists, while Coy will next appear in An Innocent Girl alongside Colman Domingo (Lincoln, The Four Seasons, Fear the Walking Dead) and James Marsden (Hairspray, Enchanted, 27 Dresses).
A premiere date for Hulu’s Prison Break reboot has not yet been announced.
