Sam Claflin will be co-stars with Riley Keough in Amazon’s musical drama Daisy Jones and the Six. The rock-music series is based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel of the same name.
Ordered for ten episodes, the forthcoming drama will explore the rise and fall of a renowned 1970’s rock band. Claflin will portray the band’s front man, Billy Dunne, who is charismatic and has complicated feelings towards his bandmate and songwriting partner, Daisy.
Billy tumorous feelings threaten to upend his life. Keough’s character Daisy is an enigmatic and spirited singer who comes up with the rise of the rock band. The series is set in Los Angeles in the 70’s.
Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, will be producing the show with Amazon. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter from Hello Sunshine will also be executive producing the show, along with Brad Mendelsohn and Will Graham. Graham will also serve as showrunner.
Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, who created the series, will also serve as executive producers, with Niki Caro directing. Jenkins Reid will be a producer on the show.
Claflin is known for his work on the big screen, from projects like The Hunger Games franchise and Me Before You, to My Cousin Rachel and The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Most recently, Claflin will star in Netflix’s Love. Wedding. Repeat opposite Olivia Munn. The actor is repped by CAA, Independent Talent Group and Douglas Stone.
Daisy Jones and the Six currently does not have a premiere date, nor has it begun filming. Amazon has several other new series in the works, including Jack Reacher, based on Lee Child’s novels and a mega-budgeted Lord of the Rings adaptation.
