This summer, it’s time to get physical! In the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ 80’s dramedy Physical, Rose Byrne (Mrs. America) transitions from an ordinary housewife to a workout influencer, via TVLine.
Physical is set to follow Byrne’s character Sheila Rubin as she struggles with personal issues surrounding her marriage and self-image. According to TVLine, Sheila is meek housewife who seemingly sacrifices her own happiness for that of her family. She supports her husband’s (played by Rory Scovel, Superstore) campaign for state assembly by imagining her own “darkly funny take on life” that she doesn’t share with anyone else (TVLine).
Eventually, Sheila finds a release to her personal issues when she enters the world of aerobics. According to Deadline, Sheila manages to combine her passion for working out with the rising industry of videotapes to create a one-of-a-kind business. Along the way to becoming a aerobics lifestyle influencer, Sheila finds personal fulfillment and real empowerment that revolutionized her era.
Physical is created, written, and executive produced by Annie Weisman (producer, Almost Family), who is additionally attached to the series as showrunner, via Deadline. The series is produced by Tomorrow Studios for Apple TV+ and will be directed by Craig Gillespie (director, I, Tonya), Liza Johnson (director, Room 104), and Stephanie Laing (producer, Made for Love). In addition to Byrne and Scovel, Della Saba (Steven Universe), Dierdre Friel (New Amsterdam), Lou Taylor Pucci (You), Paul Sparks (House of Cards), and Ashley Liao (Fuller House) are set to star, via Deadline.
The first three episodes of Physical are set to begin streaming on Friday, June 18, with episodes releasing weekly after the premiere. Watch the official teaser for the series below.
